How to use Ahl Chat

1 Open & enter the family code

Tap the family link. The first time, type the family code — it's remembered on that device and keeps everyone outside the family out.

Don't have the code? Ask whoever set up the chat.

2 Pick who you are

Tap your picture — no password. Your messages show up under your name.

3 Group & one-on-one chats

The list on the left holds your conversations — tap a name or face and that chat opens on the right:

• Ahl of Us — the whole-family group.
• Each name — a private one-on-one chat with that person.

A red number on a conversation shows how many unread messages are waiting there. Open it and the number clears.

4 Send messages & photos

Type and tap ➤ (or press Enter). Tap the emoji row for a 😀.

Tap 📷 to send a photo — your phone will let you take a new picture or choose one from your gallery. Tap any photo in the chat to see it big.

Quick buttons send instantly — great for the youngest kids:

5 Sounds & alerts

A gentle chime plays when a new message arrives. Tap the 🔔 at the top to mute it (it becomes 🔕); tap again to turn it back on.

Phones only allow sounds after you've tapped the screen once, so the first chime happens after you start using the app.

6 Add it to your home screen

For an app-like icon and a badge with your unread count:

• iPhone/iPad (Safari): tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
• Android (Chrome): menu ⋮ → Add to Home screen / Install app.
• Quickest: open ⚙ settings → Install this app and tap the button (it says “Save to desktop” on a computer, “Add to Home Screen” on a phone/tablet).

Once installed, the icon can show a little number for unread messages while the app is open or recently used. Your own messages are the purple bubbles; everyone else appears on the left with their photo.

7 Manage the family (⚙ settings)

Tap the ⚙ at the top for family settings:

• Add a person — type their name, tap Add a face photo to take or choose a picture, then Add person. They'll show up for everyone to chat with.
• Invite a device — show the QR code to a new phone or tablet; scanning it opens the chat already unlocked (the family code is built into the QR), so they just pick who they are. Or use Copy invite link to send it.
• Change the code for everyone — sets a new family code. Everyone re-enters it next time they open the app. Handy if the old code got out.
• Join a different code — points just this device at a different code.
